The Holiday Season Is Here

It’s that time again when we gear up for the “Holidays”.  If you look up the word, holiday, in the dictionary, you will find that the definition is “holy day; a day of freedom from labor; a day set aside for leisure & recreation.”  In truth by the time we actually get to the “Holiday” we are so worn out we need a vacation. Thanksgiving and Christmas has become the busiest time of the year. In just the last hundred years we have gotten caught up in the “Christmas Machine” and it has, had an effect on all of us. It doesn’t always affect each of us in the same way, but it does affect us physically, emotionally and spiritually. Physically, you might experience fatigue, headaches, stress, or weight gain / loss. Emotionally, you might become depressed, angry, short tempered, or disappointed. Your spiritual life may be neglected at a time when we as Christians need to keep the spiritual heart in Christmas. For the sake of our children, and for Jesus’ sake, we must not allow Christmas to become a time of “empty” festivities. I encourage you to examine your holiday activities in the light of the true spirit of Christmas. Give to those who truly need your gifts. Not only your material gifts, but your physical presence, emotional support, and spiritual gifts. May God give you joy and peace during this holiday season.
